Where to stay in Vegas - the Luxor?

We're just going to be in Vegas for one night with the kids (7&9) and mainly just want to get a taste of the madness and enormity of it. The Luxor is coming up as the cheapest of the 'big' ones for that night (unfortunately it's a saturday, which seems to be way more expensive!). Any recommendations or advice? I'd love to have a wee time in the casino but the babysitting looks madly expensive. Thanks!

We stayed in the Luxor a few years back. Dd was 8. It was fine. Think it's a four star. Fairly smaller than some of the other hotels but the rooms were nice and. It wasn't noisy or smoky or anything.
It is on the strip but towards one end - this is partly what makes it cheaper as it's not so central.

We returned to LV last year and stayed at the Bellagio and Venetian hotels. They are much more central but they are more expensive.

I've stayed in the Luxor and it was perfectly nice. NYNY is also good and sometimes has great deals.

Mandalay Bay (?) is beautiful with a great pool that was really calm and family friendly in comparison to the others that seemed to have parties going on all the time.

We stayed in the Signature at MGM. Huge apartments that worked very well for the children. The Signature part doesn't have a casino and has separate pools so works very well for keeping kids away from the more seedy aspects of Las Vegas. It is, however, part of the MGM so you can walk through and use all of the facilities. The pools and lazy river were virtually empty first thing in the morning (great if you are on UK time and up really early) so it was just us and a couple of other families for a few hours, and then we retreated once things got busy. It's also pretty central for all of the strip.

I also heard great things about Mandalay Bay.

The Luxor is at the very end of the strip.
We went last year and also stayed at the Signature at MGM like the above poster.
You might be able to get cheaper accomodation on Home and Away. A lot of the hotels have a seperate block of apartments behind them which are linked in to the hotel but owned and rented out by private owners. You get full use of the hotel facilities.
If your only going for one night then I would stay somewhere more central to get the full experience.

It had the worlds only 45 degree lifts we were proudly told when we checked in. It also has 45 degree glass that reflects back on your genital area if you are taking a photo of the hotel opposite at night. Nice photo of DH's nob in the days when you collected from Boots.

TBH for one night most hotels in Vegas are fine, except the Mandalay Bay which is the site of the biggest punch up over sun loungers I have ever seen. Classy.

I stayed treasure island (without children!) and it was brilliant. I hope you have a fabulous time!

We got a hotel through Hotwire. You decide on which area, and which star rating, and it tells you the prices. You don't find out where you've got until after you've paid. I didn't know one from another anyway, so I chose 5stars, and got the Aria (gorgeous) at a very good price Grin

Stay at the Vdara
It's non smoking - way better
I go all the time for work
Luxor is well known by locals as having bed bugs

a vote for circus circus here... was very good value

May be too late as the thread is a few weeks old, but I'd also vote for the Mandalay at that end of the strip. We stayed at the Luxor and it was perfectly okay, but went next store to the Mandalay and it seemed much nicer - lighter and airier.

Dh and I stayed at Luxor earlier in year - loved it. No kids with us but we did see blue man group there which I think kids would enjoy Grin
