Large group accommodation somewhere sunny?

Hello, I was wondering if anyone knew of a large self catering property that fits the following criteria... (it's a long shot but worth a try! Mumsnet has never failed me before)

  1. fits 20 adults (all in couples). There will also be six kids under 5 but we are happy to room share with them (this has to be ok with the owner obviously!

  2. within easy reach of an airport that serves Bristol and Gatwick.

  3. has a pool or is right by the beach/lake/river. Pool should be gated though.

  4. works out quite cheap on a per couple basis.

In terms of location we are wide open! I suspect we will get more for our money in Eastern Europe rather than (e.g.) Spain so happy to do Macedonia, Estonia etc

you can search for this on airbandb, owners direct or go to a specialist website like groupaccommodation. if you are looking for this summer then you are really unlikely to find this as they are in very short supply. that, or you will need very deep pockets for something a lot more expensive. search on 26 as kids over 2 (ie those not in a cot) do still count.

large accommodation is never cheap because it always comes with lots of other add ons like a pool etc. what time of year are you wanting to go?

Sorry should have said looking for next year! Thanks for the ideas for places to look, hoping for a personal recommendation if possible.

Fuerteventura is great - look on AirBnB but maybe also consider apartments/villas that eg share the same courtyard/pool etc?

How many bedrooms do you need?
Villa plus has some good 6 bed places in Majorca.

Hersetta427 · 05/05/2017 15:05

Gosh I have never even seen a villa that could sleep 26 and 10 bed minimum. Maybe you might be better off with a few adjoining villas on the same development. Murcia region in Spain is considerable cheaper than other areas of the country.

If you book on airbnb, owners direct, homeaway, holiday lettings etc., you will pay between 8 -15% booking fee. By all means use those platforms to find accommodation with reviews but then google the property name or location, if you can find the website for the property and book directly with the owner you will save money.

I would have my own place. There is no way I would be sharing with that many people sorry. Too many bathroom queues and lack of privacy!

Have you all shared like this before now?

Each couple having their own studio apartment within an area/complex will probably work out less expensive and less hassle.

Is it just me, or is twenty adults and x number of kids all sharing the same property something I would run a mile from! Well I'm sorry I would.

Best of luck in your search OP. I know we are all different and like different things on hols.

Try Airbnb or villa plus, they have dedicated villas for large groups. Alternatively all book an apartment each on the same complex. Olympic holidays has some good priced but watch the flight times. I have been on large group holidays and it's a bit of a mission to be honest! Breakfast for 26 turns into a military operation!! Enjoy 😊 x

We stayed in a place in Spain near Tarragonna called Manna House. It's on Air bnb. They had converted old farm buildings into, I think, 5 or 6 separate rooms (each with a bathroom) plus one larger house. It is owned by a lovely English couple.

You'd definitely need cars as it is in the countryside.

It was lovely, we had a great time.

frenchfancy · 06/06/2017 20:21

They do exist and they are popular so you are right to look now. groupaccommodation covers France and Spain as well as elsewhere in Europe. Airbnb are ok but you can't search on more than 16 people. Owners direct you can.

What do you mean by quite cheap on a per couple basis? If you are looking for peak summer you are going to pay £££ but if you can go outside of school hols, particularly in June, then you should get better value.

I've sent you a PM.

I'm with susanboozan in that having that many people in one accommodation could possibly cause some issues. Might it not be better to hire several apartments or rooms in one complex? You won't be in each others pockets all the time if you can give each other space, and hopefully there will be fewer fall-outs.

frenchfancy · 07/06/2017 06:20

The advantages of one big property rather than several small is that they are adapted to large groups. Everyone can eat together. All the food is in one place. You don't have to worry about leaving children in one apartment while you are with your friends in another.

A good holiday house should have enough space so you don't get under each others feet.
