Australia

DH is going to Australia for a week for work next year, over the May half term holiday. Our boys will be 14, 12 & 8 and I am wondering about taking them out of school for a week if I can and all going out for a fortnight.

It will be just them and me for a week, as the course DH is on is quite all consuming, but we could do some stuff without him. We'd need to find somewhere to stay as well. Does that sound feasible? Any ideas about what to do or websites to look at? We're usually cheap and cheerful campers, so this is a bit of a new thing for us. Thanks.

Where will DH need to be for his course?

I think it would be an ideal opportunity for 4 of you to make the trip for the price of 3.

Or 5 for the price of 4 even Blush

Yes, I thought that too - too good a discount on the holiday to miss.

I think it's in Tasmania. Although, we won't be able to see him at all that week, so we could be elsewhere.

I just did a two week holiday in tasmania. It's a beautiful part of Australia, great if you like being outdoors and loads of historical stuff too. I took my tent with me and camped for about half the trip. If you've got any questions I'd be happy to help!

I'd jump at a trip to Tasmania so definitely go if you can. It's a bloody long way for 2 weeks but an opportunity not to be missed I think.

It's an awfully long way for just 2 weeks; but on the other hand your husband would find going for just 1 week really really difficult. Basically it takes the best part of a week to get through the jet lag.

If I were you I'd do a bit of research, and then have a frank discussion with their schools and see if you can take them out longer, make it a 3 week break and see what they can learn along the way. Easier now than when your 14 year old is in to exam years.

Good luck and hope you have a great trip!
