Hi all, madly searching on teletext holidays online but don't know where to start....

We're more camping/city break types but we've had an awful time with the death of dp's dad recently and we just fancy getting away from it all.

Thing is where to start? I haven't a clue which country even!

It would nice if we could get a few days to a week's break for around £500 for the 3 of us (dd is 7)....

Anyone recently had a brilliant time somewhere? Anywhere?

Any help or advice much appreciated

Bruges is lovely - there's a huge Dolphinarium where the dolphins are happy enough to breed.

I don't think you'd get anywhere warm for £500 would you?

We're going to Cyprus in May to stay with friends and the flights alone are £1200 for 4 of us including taxes etc.

Yeah fortyplus, I don't think a cheap sun exists unless a costa del tacky type thing and we're not that desperate ha,ha,ha! Bruges sounds a great idea I'll investigate...thanks

Hi Lizzer

There are good deals around for UK hotels. There are offers in the marriott hotels in London. we have booked 3 nights with our tesco vouchers. On their website the price reduced if you were staying 3 or more nights.

What about a really good self-catering place somewhere in the UK, might have more money left over for some activities like horseriding, and you can kick back and relax at night when DD in bed.

Hi and thanks marbeth and scribble, I think its looking more likely we might stay in britain now so will look around for offers. We had a fab time in Sandbanks near Poole last Oct, it was warm enough to sit out without a coat and even paddle in sea (well, not me personally!!)

I'm oop north and its feeling almost warmish today so I bet 'down south' you must all be basking in the sunshine, yes? That said it could be snowing in 2 weeks time, who knows

Going to travel agents after picking dd up from school so fingers crossed....

Ok I cheated! Booked to see my lovely friend whom I've known since school.. She just happens to live in the South of Italy near the beach and is a small price of a ryanair flight away. She's enough room for the 3 of us to stay so we're all done for £400 including car hire... Thanks for all your suggestions though.. We're feeling better already
