Day trip to Venice from Lake Garda. Possible? Worth doing?

We are going to Lake Garda over Easter. I am considering visiting Venice for the day. We would go by train (which is about 2 hours I understand).

Is it worth it? Will we be able to see enough of Venice to make it worth while? What are the "must-sees"?

Dds are 7 (will be nearly 8) and 10 - so can take the pace of a long day and lots of walking if necessary.

You will know it was worth it the moment you step out of the station onto the Grand Canal!
I wouldn't bother with anything particular (i expect it will be busy) but just wander around, take the waterbus down the Grand Canal, stroll over the Rialto Bridge, and through St Marks Square, saoking up the atmosphere.

oooh, you've got me all excited now! Any tips? Anyone else?

Definitely do able as we did it the other way a couple of years ago, ie went from venice to Verona and Lake Garda. We drove but it was fine.

I loved Venice, it was spectacularly beautiful in a sort of decayed way but you could just imagine how it must have been in it's heyday.

There are gondola ferries called traghetti which cross the grand canal. You have to stand up, but its cheap (less than a euro) and you can say you've had a gondola ride
