How to travel with larger (1 year +) infant car seat??

I've done lots of travel with our baby but now he is 10 months old and has outgrown his small infant car seat and "snap & go" stroller base which make travel so easy.

How do people fly and take cabs with a bigger infant/toddler? The convertible car seat (for 20+ pound infants) must be really big & bulky to carry around with a separate stroller. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

You book cabs with a car seat
You use a luggage trolley at the airport
You check the seat in and pray they don't damage it

But what about just taking cabs within London? I don't see people carrying around a large infant car seat. I'm sure I'm missing something.

Newer black cabs have a built in seat for LOs
Otherwise you can either not bother or leave them in the pushchair (if you are travelling with one)

i managed to get through london waterloo with a (non walking) 13 month old

a maclaren buggy (baby in it)
a travel cot
a group 1 britax car seat
a hand bag
2 big holdalls
a baby changing bag (rucksack) and
a carrier bag

I hung the car seat (making the straps as big as they go) over the handles of the maclaren (and balanced travel cot on the hood)

It is annoying and you will bang your legs on it, + if baby gets out it WILL topple over backwards but thats what i did. it wasnt ideal but it worked!

i wouldnt want to do it walking round a shopping centre for example tho!

wow, now that takes talent!
i've also heard of folding car seats, but they are still quite heavy.
