We will be visiting County Durham next week with an almost 4 year old and a 16 month old - any recommendations? Have a car so happy to drive a bit of a distance.

Adventure Land in Durham is fun. Lots to do indoors and out. Hall Hill Farm just outside Durham if the weather is good. Lots of nice walks in Durham and parks in Gateshead/Newcastle-Saltwell Park is one of the best. Enjoy!

Beamish

Beamish again! And Durham cathedral/general wander round, Newcastle/Gateshead quayside, walk through the Sage and Baltic for the view, Centre for Life (especially if it's wet) - it's a bit pricey but you can often get free child tickets e.g. if you come on bus/metro,...

Definitely Beamish, love it!

www.sevenstories.org.uk/ is just brilliant, lots to keep everyone busy including a craft area downstairs and dressing up boxes everywhere.

Definitely Beamish, it's great for those ages. They'll love the tram

Jesmond dene is good. Also centre of life . If you don't mind venturing a bit further out the Northumberland coast is beautiful and lots of castles to explore ie Bamburgh.
