Niagara Falls (Canada) - hotel recommendations???

As part of our summer holiday we are planning a night at Niagra Falls on the Canadian side.

Could anyone recommend a hotel with good views and easy distance to everything we will want to see/do?

We will only have one day and one evening there, so a flying visit really, so need everything on our doorstep. As well as fab views from the room.

It will be me, dh and 15y DD. We don't mind sharing a room for the night.

Any of the major hotels within walking distance of the Falls will work: the Marriott, Hilton, Sheraton, Embassy Suites and Crowne Plaza all are close and have views of the Falls. I think the Marriott or the Embassy Suites is the closest to the Falls and is also very close to Clifton Hill and other attractions. im not sure if all rooms have a view of the Falls, so checking when you book would be a good idea.

I hope you like Niagara! I find it a bit cheesy but fun. From where will you be coming?

If you stay in the Marriott do not eat at the hotel dinner buffet. I had horrendous food poisoning from what was obviously reheated meat/fish dishes. Totally ruined three days of my holiday.

We stayed at the Sheraton and had fabulous views of the falls.

However, Niagara is a bit tacky and you can do most if what you want to see in half a day. Niagara on the lake is a lovely wee place and well worth a visit. Some nice wineries in the area too.

Back to niagara - DH and DD loved www.nightmaresfearfactory.com/. Not my thing.

Clifton Hill is certainly good, tacky fun. . I've been to Ripley's Believe It or Not and played Skee Ball at the big arcade, both of which I enjoyed. But for me, part of Niagara experience is embracing the cheesiness. Not all day, though!

In addition to the Falls themselves, Niagara Parks have some great attractions: Butterfly Conservatory, Botanical Gardens, and Journey Behind the Falls are easily accessible and fun. I second Niagara-On-The-Lake, which is really charming and has decent dining options. For wineries, Stratus is gorgeous, but there's lots of choice. Trius, Marynissen, and Peller are also lovely.

Depending on when you're visiting, there might be a nightly fireworks show over the Falls, which I've heard is fantastic.

Vanderly - we are flying over from the UK and spending time in Montreal and then Toronto. After Niagara we are flying to Tampa to go to Busch Gardens and then SW Florida.

Dd has already put her vote in for eating at Hard Rock Cafe in the evening so won't be eating dinner on the hotel

We will be there end of July. No fireworks for that night but there are illuminations.

We will only have the Saturday afternoon and evening, then a small amount on Sunday morning before going to the airport.

Given your timeline, you'll certainly be able to fill your time in the Falls. Any of the hotels mentioned above will put you within easy walking distance of the Falls, Clifton Hill, and everything else. I hope your daughter enjoys the Hard Rock Cafe! Too bad about the fireworks, but the illuminations are fun, too.

And, I do hope you have a great time! I love Montreal. Toronto, too.

I am sure she will - been to ones elsewhere. Think she is aiming to get a new t shirt from this one and the hotel near Tampa on this trip.

As someone mentioned above Niagara On The Lake is beautiful. If you can't stay there overnight do try and pop along for a bit.

There's also a Hard Rock in Toronto, but it's closing soon. In May, I think?

BTW, If you're taking the train to Niagara, it's a quick cab ride to the Falls. Both the train and the drive from Toronto to Niagara abut some really lovely sections along the lake. If you're driving, the route through the Niagara wine country is very pretty.

We will be driving from Toronto to the falls, and then back to the airport at Toronto the following day.

We are using the train between Montreal and Toronto I hope.

That's a shame re Hard Rock Toronto. Seems it's lease has finished and the owners want to let the whole building out as one. Dd could have got another t shirt in ;)

There is a HRC at Niagara Falls and they have two branches in Tampa.

Yes the Tampa and Niagara ones are on dd's list.

Too bad about the shirt! The space is going to become a Shoppers Drug Mart, so maybe she could get a souvenir pack of gum instead? 😄

If you're at all interested in seeing the Niagara wine country, you could take a more scenic route to the Falls. It's really lovely, especially during the summer months.

We've booked a deluxe room with fallsview (both falls) at the Sheraton on the Falls. Not cheap but hopefully worth it for a good view.

Don't know how easy it is to cross sides these days but the us side is set up as a national park, Canadian side is a tourist attraction with casinos. So for beauty go over to us side. But Canadian side still pretty amazing, just different vibe.

We're doing Toronto and Montreal this Summer - much as I wanted to get the train between the two it was half the price to fly with air transat

That's interesting; I will check again as when we looked at train, car and flight options the train was cheapest.

I tried that once... it was a bit dissappointing... if your floor is too high you wont get to see the falls unless you go to the window... if its too low its like you dont see he falls well..
