Haven't been yet but am considering it for this summer, particularly as we live next door in Austria The best website by far that I have found is www.slovenedream.com.

I've been several times (dh's father and wife live there). What would you like to know?

Hi Pepa. Going to Kranskja Gora. Just wondered what is available for kids? They do love the outdoor life, and wondered if cycle hire is widely available, and would it be feasable to go to venice for a day?

Kranskja Gora is really nice - we stayed there about 3 years ago but before ds was born so I did not pay too much attention to the children focused facilities. We stayed at Koca na Gosdu part way up the mountains (on the way up to Trzic) We did see lots of cyclists making their way up to the summit (we waved as we drove by! ) but you have to be VERY fit to manage that journey - the mountains are v. steep, even our car felt the strain in places! As for Venice - I'm not sure as we never tried to go there but I will check with FIL when we talk to them this weekend.

Kranska Gora is about 2 hours max from Ljublijana (capital of slovenia) easy travelled in a day and is definately worth a visit - its a very pretty, clean city. Its only a small city though (more of a big town) so its really easy to get around and find parking. Theres lots of historical 'stuff' and the old town citidal on the hill in the centre of the city is definately worth a visit.

Hope all this helps - if not let me know!!!

Thanks for your help Pepa. I would be grateful if you could find out about the day trip to venice.

We stayed at Lake Bled. Lots to do for a 10 and 7yo who like outdoor things - you can swim in the lake, hire boats, go cycling, there's a little castle to visit, etc. It was very nice.

I would second Fennels post re Bled - the lake is lovely for swimming are there are a couple of other nice lakes in the near area. We actually had a couple of day trips to Bled while we were staying at Kranska Gora.

I spoke to FIL this weekend - apparently it is about 4 (maybe 4 1/2) hours to Venice from Kranska Gora, he thinks popping straight into Italy and driving through that country is probably the quickest route.
