Lake Garda 2018!

SciFiFan2015 · 25/03/2017 15:35

Hi,

Thinking ahead (and planning to save up) would love to take family to Lake Garda beginning of July 2018. Any advice on reasonable priced accommodation (where to find etc)? 3 adults (hoping to take Granny) plus DS (11 by then) and DD (8 by then)

Any tips really appreciated.
Hopefully fly from Scotland. Central belt preferred.

Depends what you are looking for - southern part of the lake is flatter and there are more camping sites, water park etc. The north of the lake is mountainous and the perfect place if you are into water sports, sailing, wind-surfing and kite surfing, easier access to the cable car up to Monte Baldo and access to para-gliding. Consider what access you want to the ferries that criss-cross the lake. All of the area is beautiful. If you want access to Verona/Venice as possible day trips staying on the east side of the lake make them more 'do-able'.

Take a look on Booking.com. We booked on there for a holiday last year and we have just reserved a villa for next August (2 weeks). We don't go for hotels now as we have a 9 year old girl and a 13 year old boy and it can be very cramped in a hotel room (and they are noisy and like space).
If you do go for an apartment/villa make sure you get beds and not sofa beds for the kids as my boy was 12 when we went last year and he went through a BIG growth spurt so his legs were off the end of the sofa bed.
Booking.com allow free cancellation on a lot of their places so that is handy if you find something better later on.
There are some good flights to Verona and Venice with EasyJet at the moment (in the school hols) esp if you can go from Gatwick or Liverpool.
You'll love it! Lake Garda is beautiful. We also did a day trip to Venice - lovely!

Look at anything near Peschiera Del Garda, it’s a beautiful town. Lovely place for meals on an evening and a wander around/ice cream afterwards.

There are quite a few campsites that are very popular, Bella Italia is a big one with lots of facilities. You can walk to the centre of the town along the shore in about 15 mins it’s lovely.
