Assuming they're not crawling? Is the sand a nightmare?

Not a problem if you have a very large towel!

Though I'm not a beach fan myself!

Sand will be everywhere, and I mean everywhere!

But they'll love it! My ds was really unsure about sand at around 6 months, by 8 months he'd sit with a bucket and spade for ages under the shade. Fantastic!

massagemum · 06/03/2007 19:18

they will end up very sandy but should really enjoy it!! At that age they even seem to enjoy eating it!!!

DumbledoresGirl · 06/03/2007 19:22

They eat sand.

I well remember ds2 at the beach aged 6 months. he was not yet crawling so I thought it would be a doddle: sit him in the middle of the rug and he wouldn be fine. No! Sit him in the middle of the rug and he pulled at the rug until he had pulled it right off the sand and then sat and ate sand!

The good news is, copious quantities of sand don't seem to upset them!

I've never seen a baby that doesn't love the beach. They love waves washing over them, so long as you are there to make them feel secure.
Will eat the sand, but hey-ho.
Just make sure they have sun-suits and plenty of shade.

bring a bumbo
will take up half your suitcase/travel bag but worth every inch.

tassis · 06/03/2007 21:52

thanks everyone!

when ds was 8 months it was December so this is all new to us!

might just take the bumbo, dd adores it...

what's a bumbo??

am i being stupid?!

mylittlestar · 07/03/2007 08:13

my ds has always adored the beach btw. playing in the sand as well as sitting at the edge of the waves - he thinks it's hillarious as the water gets his feet! and at 18 months he still tries to eat the sand

We had one of those beach tents when DS was 6 months. He could sleep in it or sit on the sand in the shade of it. Because he had only just started sitting (he turned 6 months while we were on that holiday) I built up a little wall of sand to support him. He loved it. But, yes, lots of sand in his nappy, creases etc. And I took him down to the water and swung his feet into the waves - was all lots of fun.

mylittlestar, a bumbo is this

great for first solids too if they can't sit up well in a high chair.

mylittlestar · 07/03/2007 08:45

oh right, amidaiwish thanks!

Dophus · 07/03/2007 08:47

they eat the sand - but soon get bored. I found teh more I reacted to his sand munching the more he did it.

He loved playing in it.

What he loved most wasnot wearing a nappy and having free access to his winky...
