SMA Follow on - cartons available in Italy?

Hi there. Am thinking of a break in the Italian lakes in September with DS when he is 6 months old. Has occurred to me that I will probably have switched to Follow on milk by then. Anyone know if the cartons will be available in Italian Supermarkets, and also how much follow on milk a 6 month old is likely to need per day? DS will probably go on to SMA follow on as he has got on well with SMA gold. I am likely to have started weaning before 6 months btw. Sorry if this has turned into too much of a food question!!!

Don't know if is available in Italy....but how about buying and taking the 6oz sachets and using bottled water? We did this with ds (the bottled water bit...) when he was 3 months.....just make sure it is low in sodium.

May resort to doing that, blackduck - sounds so much easier! though we are not meant to do that here, apparently everyone does that in France! do the sachets mix in OK with room temp water? By 6 months is it OK to use ordinary tap water for feeds, rather than cooled boiled?

Sachets mix fine with room temp water...have just had a week in Turkey and used the sachets and bottled water....ds is still with us! I'd be wary about tap water abroad personally. I think there was a thread on mumsnet listing 'okay' waters (evian and volvic were okay I think...) My sil's HV actually gave her a list...

Ta for the ultra prompt response. Italy water (especially in the North) is OK isn't it? Don't worry - would not dream of using Turkish tap water on DS!I shall search for your OK water thread. My French friend mentioned Evian to me - the perfect friend - childless but still happy to spend half an hour talking to me about how the French make up baby bottles

The water is probably fine although I think we boiled when we went to Italian part of Switzerland when dd was 10 months. Otherwise Evian is fine for babies. Don't recall having seen any cartoned baby milk when we were there last year, but then we weren't looking for it, The Milupa stuff available in Switzerland is only recommended from 10 months and Nestle from a year. Loads of baby food jars though. think I'd take a packet of your usual milk and mix as you go. btw to sterilise you can get Tommee Tippee or Mothercare cold water sterilising bags with premeasured tablets to fill with water and hang in the bathroom. Box is really small to pack.
