Teen Travel Insurance - advice/suggestions?

My ds is covered on our annual family travel insurance but not if he isn't travelling with me. He is going to France/Belgium for a long weekend in the Easter holidays with his uncle but when I checked with my insurer he isn't covered unless he is with me or school or another 'organised group'. A family member other than me doesn't count.

Has anyone any recommendations for good teen travel cover? Ideally with added gadget cover? I found one but it had no luggage cover whatsoever so was useless and I've found a couple of others on compare.com but just wondered if anyone had any recommendations.

Have you tried backpacker cover? There may be a minimum age.

Taking minimum gadgets is good, these policies do tend to exclude the expensive toys for obvious reasons.

The gadget problem is that it's a final trip to get a whole lot of gcse photography done prior to the exams in April so he needs his camera and the lenses - otherwise he is only ever allowed to travel with a phone.

Ah. In that case he has a lot of phoning around to do.

is there a photographers guild or society? if there is contact them and see what they suggest for specialist insurance. one of my children has to have specialist insurance for some sporting kit and the association gave us a list of insurers that would cover it at a very reasonable cost.

I have found gadget insurance but most of the insurers I've checked only go up to about £300 per item for a maximum of about 2 items which doesn't cover the camera and the lenses so that's a very good idea.

We have a annual policy with Campbell Irvine and it's list us all individually on the policy so our DC are insured when they travel seperately from us.

A basic camera & lenses would be covered on a standard travel insurance policy but you'd need full camera insurance for professional kit. I have a gadget policy with Helpucover for our phones/ipads and i think they cover cameras too.

That would have been brilliant, WhatHave but they have a deferred policy start of 14 days and he goes next Friday. I am kicking myself as I had a note to do this last week but was busy at work and didn't get around to it.

He is independently listed on my insurance but they say categorically he isn't covered unless he is with me or on an organised trip. Going with another family member doesn't count. Very irritating.

Ah well - I'm just going to have to plump for something and hope we get something back should the worst happen in terms of equipment.

We have annual specific camera insurance through eversure as our travel insurance (with bank account) doesn't give high enough cover. It was pretty reasonable and obviously covered insurance while in this country as well on holiday

I've just called a specific camera insurer who are underwritten by eversure as it happens, and they won't cover anyone under 16 and he's only 14.

Added to that the fact he is travelling with his uncle not me and it appears to be impossible.

It's quite irritating...

Can the uncle not add him to his policy as he will be in loco parent on the trip?
