I'm off to Athens for the weekend with dd2 (11) and ds (10) on the 16th March. Obviosly we'll see the Acropolis (ds is doing a Greek project at the moment) but would really appreciate any tips or ideas. We're staying in Sygmata Square.
Thanks.

Please? Never been there before and sadly as a mum I'm not that confident at travelling abroad without dh and with only half the kids....

Oh hope you see this before you go!!!

Spoke to friends in Athens and basically as you are staying in Syntagma Square everything is in walking distance!!

Obviously the Acropolis but also the Plaka area is great to wander around and take in the open air market. The Archaeological Museum is a must but only do a bit of it as the kids may get bored - Classical Greek section will do as this period is covered by UK schools. Walk through Zappio gardens, walk to the Olympic Stadium, Military Museum is walkable from Syntagma Square too.

Go on the Metro to the seafront for lunch and take the tram to Glyfada.

I'm sure your hotel will have lots of suggestions - there are some good tours of the city that you can book.

Have Fun!!

Thanks Lurkylou! We're off on Friday and I can't wait. Hadn't thought of heading to the coast - the kids probably deserve a break after all the museums.
