Anyone been to Madeira?

Just wondered what it was like? Looking for a reasonably priced beach holiday where it wasn't too hot?

If it is a beach holiday you want then it isn't ideal - there is only one beach (man-made). There are lots of lidos (with swimming pools and direct access to the sea).

Madeira is lovely though and there is plenty to do.

It's a beautiful island - green, lush, great food and drink. Not a beach place though but if you're happy with lidos and pools it's glorious. I'd say it's more adult focused...we've been a couple of times and loved it - chilled, relaxed in day, great places to walk, explore, eat, shop and lot of fun in the evening with live music. Went in April, was lovely warm weather, cooler in evening. Been in June and was HOT.
