Driving holidays in Europe - ideas where to go?

Can any one recommend a good place to go to within an easy drive from Calais, approx five to eight hours driving.

Last year we went to a lovely gite/campsite in the Loire valley (www.loire-gites.com) and in the past been to Duinrell in Holland.

I'm not a lover of big holiday parks, and as a family we lke a mixture of going places and doing things.

Anyone got any recommendations?
