Sorry if this is too late but I went to Samos back in 2001 and loved it. It's my favourite Greek island so far! It's great if you like walking or pottering around exploring in a car. The scenery is amazing and there are some good beaches. I liked the resort of Kokkari the best as there are lots of shops and restaurants all based around a harbour. The food is quite basic and samey, but if you like simple Greek food you'll be okay.
I'd definitely go there again. Hope that helps a bit,
