Need a short break that's affordable

I really want to go on a short break because we can't afford to fork out for a holiday right now. We want more than just a day out so we were thinking of just taking a weekend trip somewhere in the UK.

We have a 5 year old so needs to be somewhere family friendly. Any recommendations?

Northumberland is lovely and lots of beaches/woods/castles.

There's the national park for bike riding/walking/nature spotting
There's harbours for crabbing
National trust to explore
English heritage for lots of castles

If you join national trust and English heritage membership too (9-and 7£ ish for our family) a month then admission will be free.

It's not as cold as people think up there

London has lots of free stuff for kids as does Oxford.

Where are you based? You don't want to be travelling for ages on a weekend trip.
If you are in the south, AirB&B has beautiful options for Jurassic coast or South Hams in Devon.
Just returned from 5 night break away suitable for children. Little stream running though garden for paddling. Fully stocked kitchen and lots of wet day toys and craft kits supplied for children. Fantastic break. Lots to do out and about even in February, free or minimal cost. Our cottage was only £80 a night. Included welcome pack of local farm food and logs for the log burner.

Hi curvyfrog, would you be able to pm me with the air bnb details pls for the one you stayed at. We are a family of 4 so that price sounds great.

We had a great time in Tenby. 3 beaches, a harbour for crabbing and lots of lovely things to see and do.
We just stayed in a cottage

York, Liverpool or Edinburgh are all good for weekend breaks with kids. If you're looking for a city break obviously.

Premier inns are very cheap and they are everywhere.

The new forest is lovely, we stayed in a caravan park, shorefields for 3 nights, was pleasantly surprised after dreading a caravan holiday! Indoor and outdoor pool, 2 small parks. Ate out locally and went to sandbanks for the day, beautiful beach.
