Will be there at half term, DSs 16 and 11. Looking for a good steakhouse, best burgers and pizza! I know it's going to be £££ but less inexpensive options would be good!

Thank you.

St Johns Pizza at 260 W 44th Street does good pizza (huge portions), try and reserve a table in advance as it gets very busy.

Shake Shack are good for burgers; again these are numerous in NYC and do get very busy. Its quite reasonably priced.

All of Keith McNally's restaurants are worth checking out, particularly Minetta Tavern.

Standard Grill

Catch in Meatpacking for seafood

For burgers and pizza, Google best burgers NYC for inspiration i.e. for burgers:

I came on to say catch too Rocco - seriously good!

Another vote for Shake Shack!! Best burgers we've eaten anywhere. And their frozen custards are amazing too. And very reasonable.

I can definitely recommend Lombardis for Pizza! DH loves 5 Napkin Burger.

Peter Luger for steaks. Not cheap but absolutely worth it. Try and go for lunch. It may one of the only places in the world that can match the appetite of two growing boys. They slice the (cooked) steak at the table for you, place it on your plate and then spoon some of the rendered fat over the meat. Amazing. But be warned, their idea of a salad is sliced tomatoes covered in...steak sauce.

Also Serious Eats will have lots of good recommendations for cheap places to eat.

We had a great time with our teenagers at Virgil's BBQ 152 W 44th St.

SellFridges · 03/02/2017 17:35

I always recommend the Greenwich Food Tour. A walking tour of the area stopping off at various restaurants.

GreenRut · 03/02/2017 17:35

Yes to shake shack. I don't even usually like burgers but it was delicious.

MrsSlocombesPussy · 03/02/2017 17:45

For an old fashioned ice cream parlour Eddies sweet shop in Queens

AttilaTheMeerkat · 03/02/2017 18:37

I would also recommend Virgil's if you like BBQ.

Steakhouses mentioned look amazing but maybe a bit 'grown up' ? Anyone know of a more young person type place, less formal perhaps. Thanks.

Maybe have a look at STK Downtown?

Although not steakhouses per se, the restaurants I mentioned previously will serve a good steak, particularly Minetta Tavern.

Jungfraujoch · 03/02/2017 19:53

Thanks Rocco. I'm feeling hungry looking at all these restaurants!

STK Downtown?

Minetta Tavern is great also.. very cool!

Daisiesandgerberas · 03/02/2017 21:29

Exactly what stealing said.

The burgers in the hidden bar are great & the atmosphere is incredible.

You'll have a fantastic time in NYC!

My main tip would be to hunt lunch time specials, there was a great Thai we went to near the natural history museum. We tended to have a big meal at lunch and then snack on the evening, as it was much cheaper.

Chippednailvarnishing · 03/02/2017 21:34

I went into Johnny Rockets on my own for dinner and they were lovely, the food was great and fantastic milkshakes!

ememem84 · 03/02/2017 21:43

Benjamins off of fifth (near grand central ish about a block away). Steak is great and it's in an old bank.

WatchingFromTheWings · 03/02/2017 22:02

Following as we're going in August!

Quality Meats was very casual. Lots of young groups dining before heading out to the clubs.
