Bali hotels

I'm planning a trip to Bali this summer. it's been very hard finding somewhere that is suitable for DH, nearly 15 yr old and me! Loads of discussion (arguments)about destinations.
I have been before, but it was about 25 years ago.
Can anyone recommend hotels please, mid range. I want to spend a few days in Ubud and then on to the beach. Would like to avoid Kuta and the southern beaches. Probably in the north so we can visit temples, volcanoes etc.

We stayed in Sanur Beach which might suit you. It was 21 years ago, but the place we stayed at has reasonably good reviews - Segora Village.

I totally understand why you would want to miss out the southern beach, but I now miss out Ubud too! Lots of coach tours and traffic, hideously busy all the time. If we do stay in the area then we tend to stay out in Nyuh Kuning, the other side if the monkey forest, or north of Ubud proper, to stay out of the hassle.
in the north I really like Pemuteran. If you're going that way then consider stopping in Munduk on the way or up at the lakes. It's a different side of the island and beautiful.
Also look at Amed on the East coast. very quiet village atmosphere, friendly people and none of the crass over commercialisation that blights the south of the island.
