Madeira as a couple

Any suggestions for good things to do in Madeira in late Feb or early March? We're probably staying in Funchal and are likely to hire a car (if we need to) and like walking and old stuff and wine and nice food.

We hit Blandys in funchal itself for the tour and tastings. Also the Market de Lavadores (but read TripAdvisor for this first for the scams they pull). Botanical gardens. Reids for afternoon tea.

As you can tell, we didn't hire a car! We did go on some jeep trips booked late in the day at half price and went to the highest point and highest European cliff and the island interior (worth it) and another to the north of the island (not that great a trip to be honest). I wish I'd seen the Nuns Valley and Santana (latter we thought we were going to on the first trip....but it never happened... Mmmmm)

we went up to rock pools in north of island and swam but it was October- stunning - also went out on old fashioned motor bikes(driven for us) all loved that-
