I am hoping to book for pre xmas 2017.
My son will be 5, almost 6 is this a good age?
Any advice from those that have been? Bookings, excursions, what to expect will be appreciated

We have just come back we visited as a couple on a last minute package deal 6 years ago with Thompson.

This time we did it separately and booked flights with Charter Flights and a log cabin with www.yllaksenmatkailu.fi/en?siteName=ffyllas

We hired a car this time and booked our own excursions direct with operators. This saved at least €100 per person per trip if we had gone with Thompsons excursions.

We hired a car and this really did allow us to see the real Finland.

The area to stop in is Yllas if you are doing family things and or if you ski. A day trip down to Rovaniemi to see santa is a must.

Things to do:
Reindeer sleigh which can be done when seeing santa
Kids skidoo again at santa
Huskies in Yllas
Pony ride if kids like horses
Ski taster

If money isn't a worry just go down the package route. It cost us £1500 for a full week (7 days) for the three of us - that's accomodation, flights and car hire. So £500 each which is a big saving.

My daughter is 3 and probably more like a 4 as far as her understanding goes etc and she loved it, found it magical.

I found the log cabin more magical than the hotel last time, we love exploring local culture so doing it like we did we saw more rather than total commercialised.

Just back from trip with Thomson your child is perfect age.stayed at winter wonderland fab resort. Trips expensive but we booked with them for convenience. You could book trips locally I think

@gizlotsmum no food wasn't an issue. You can stock up in supermarkets or eat in local restaurants who do a variety from pizzas to steaks.
