I am so crap at getting ready to go away

Does anyone else drive themselves nuts by leaving everything till the last minute? I do it every time and say I won't in future but always do. I'm taking the kids away today for a week but we're nowhere near getting out the door and I also booked a cleaner to come while we're away. I'm so ashamed at the state of the place that I have to have a good tidy up before we go. Meanwhile my sons are oblivious and leave a trail behind them...The last time we went away we had to go back for a bag we'd forgotten and missed our train. Is anyone in recovery from this affliction? Share your secrets please.
There, feel better now.

my advice - Get off mumsnet and go pack

Sorry, couldn't resist
Start collecting stuff in piles about a week beforehand, especially clean clothes that you don't want to be worn and washed again before you go. DCs get a bag each to pack their toys etc ( i do the clothes.

Plus dh has just left for 10 days work in Australia, so I'm also feeling sorry for myself. Thanks Foxtrot, I know I need a kick up the backside.
