Advice on holiday in East Africa Jan 2017

My husband & daughter are meeting our youngest in East Africa in January. I'll be honest, I've no idea where to start looking for holidays there. Needless to say, we will be on a fairly tight budget (thinking £800 each?)
Can anyone offer advice on where to make a start?

Where in East Africa.? Zanzibar? Kenya?

If Kenya you could do Malindi and Mombassa. There are still plenty of tourists to be found in these areas despite warnings from the foreign office.

Zanzibar is lovely.
