19 hour flight with stomach bug!

Flying back to Uk on Monday with ds. Dh not flying with us as he has to go to Singapore with work.
Should I take Imodium pre flight- if I can get hold of it? Is it likely to 'block up ' any bug I've got causing more problems?! We have 5 hour stopover in Bangkok and I know there is a Boots there so can get Imodium there probably!
Dreading it! I have aisle seat on return flight at least.
Any tips?

If it's a bug, and not a reaction to food, you shouldn't fly surely? You can't risk being in close quarters for 19 hours with passengers and crew, and risk causing a massive outbreak? Would travel insurance cover you if unfit to fly?

if it is both ends possibly you should cancel the flight,, it will only get worse midair.
I have just done a 22 hour coach journey with rampant food poisoning from dodgy Chinese food and it was horrendous, only one end though, and not 30.000 feet.

kansasmum · 29/10/2016 11:34

I think it's a reaction to food.

You can't fly with a bug, you could give it to loads of people!

stonecircle · 29/10/2016 11:34

It's Saturday. Hopefully by Monday you will have stopped vomiting or having diahorrea.

Unless you have something like salmonella in which case you shouldn't be traveling.

kansasmum · 29/10/2016 11:36

Jesus how stupid I didn't even think of the fact that maybe I shouldn't fly.
Oh well guess will have to see how it goes tmw and have a plan b. ( God knows what that would be!)

Drink plenty of fluids, stick to very plain food. Dry toast, bananas and plain boiled rice. Should be fine for Monday.

specialsubject · 30/10/2016 10:37

Call travel insurers, I think you should postpone. You could give it to the entire plane!

kansasmum · 30/10/2016 11:42

The bug has stopped! No diarrhoea since 10am today. Which means by the time I fly I will have been 32 hours with no diarrhoea. Not the ideal 48 hrs but good enough to get me home. I'm pretty sure it was the salad as would have expected dh and ds to get it otherwise.
Fingers crossed I don't have to rearrange flight.

Good news! Hopefully it has indeed been and gone. Thanks for update and glad you feel better.
