Hi, I am a mum of two boys (ages 3 and 18 months) and we are due to move to North Leeds over the next couple of weeks (due to DH new job). I would like to meet people and want my boys to interact with other kids. I don't know anyone there and I am shy, so not sure where to start. Can anyone help?

Calil - look no further! We have a meet-up arranged in Leeds on 23 Feb (I suggested the date and then realised I couldn't go, DOH) - details here .

There is a pre-meet on Monday in north Leeds but I suspect that might be a bit soon for you?

Thanks for that I'll try and make the 23rd.

N Leeds used to have a great NCT post natal group. When we relocated from Newcastle that's how I made all my new friends. They were a really great bunch and a real social mix. Everyone was always really friendly and welcoming. There was an NCT group in Far Headingley and one in Chapel Allerton. I also found 3 different playgroups and made friends thro' those.

There are loads of nice areas in N Leeds. Moortown and Alwoodley are nice, but personally I prefer the areas a bit further west (Adel, West Park, Bramhope, Cookridge, Horsforth, Weetwood, Headingley is nice but beware of students!) Chapel Allerton is also really nice - used to be a lot of Mnetters living there (has it's own shopping - and nice restaurants, cafes and bars).

We rented in Alwoodley for 9 months and found it a little 'odd' - never seen so many private number plates in one area before in my life, bit pretentious really (apologies to anyone living there!) There is an area of Alwoodley called Millionaires row - nuf said.
