My dd 2.5 is obsessed with elephants and somebody told me that Whipsnade is similar to Longleat in as much as the animals roam freely whilst you sit in your car etc. Has anybody been and is my friend correct in saying they have the all important elephants there?

"ZSL Whipsnade Zoo" give you a unique close-up insight into the daily lives of ZSL Whipsnade Zoo?s elephants.

Their new dynamic "?Elephantastic!?" demonstrations allow the specialist keepers to show visitors the training methods they use with these fantastic animals, as well as explaining why these are so important.

Demonstrations will take place in the brand new purpose-built arena, offering more seats and a larger viewing space. Launching on Saturday 24 May, Elephantastic! will run throughout the summer.

See how the keepers work with the elephants to lift their feet so that they can be cleaned and checked by the vets. Learn too how these beautiful animals face a daily struggle for survival in the wild, as well finding out about ZSL?s conservation work with Asian elephants.

There?s also be an chance to witness the strength of an elephant?s trunk and their amazing dexterity while children and visitors can enjoy interaction with the keepers before they take their charges on their daily walk around the zoo.

"Elephantastic!" will take place daily at 2.30pm from Saturday 24 May until 7 September 2008.

The demonstration lasts approximately 20 minutes and is free to zoo visitors.
