Hi - has anyone DC who have been on PGL on their own (I mean sans parents)? Am sending DSs (9 and 7) there for a week in the summer. They are very eager to go, not purely our own selfishness offloading them... (Yes yes - I know I should have consulted the collective wisdom of mumsnet before booking, but now 'tis done wonder if anyone has any useful info they could impart?many thanks

DD went on a school trip to a different PGL and loved it. She was 10 at the time. However, she had also been to Camp Beaumont, Norfolk aged 9 for a week completely alone, knowing nobody and again to their IOW camp the following year for two weeks.

She found the two weeks a bit long, but the week was just fine.

They'll love it.

Thanks - this is very reassuring - your DD was a brave girl going alone!

She went off to Croatia last summer as well! Our Slovenian housekeeper cum childminder was going to work at a summer camp there and said she'd keep an eye on DD if she wanted to go too.

I think it's really good for kids to go away from their parents as they grow up. There's no way she would have gone to Croatia had she not been used to being away from me before.
