Cheap weekend in USA

I go to an annual conference in Connecticut every March and the company usually pay for a weekend in New York on the weekend beforehand (return flight to JFK and 2 nights in a hotel). I fancy a change.

Happy to take internal flights, so where is reasonable (meals/going out/sightseeing)? I doubt anywhere is nearly as expensive as New York (LA maybe!), so please provide suggestions - will fly out from Heathrow.

Have you visited Boston?

Boston and Chicago are great, but cold in March. Miami would be nice weather.

Boston, Chicago or Washington DC would be my suggestions.

Chicago is my favourite US city, so I'd say go there.

May be too far, but Savannah GA or Charleston SC would be my choice. Boston or Chicago are just other big cities like NYC.
