Planning trip to celebrate significant birthday for DH (planned to go for the last significant birthday, but had a tiny newborn) for October 2017.

Planning on at least Economy Plus on way out and Business on way back to have best chance of sleeping on a night flight.I'm looking for advice on when to book, when they go on sale? or will there be deals later? Also, BA or Virgin?

Thanks

Flights go on sale about 11 months in advance. I would book as soon as you can. Virgin and BA are both fine but don't discount some of the US airlines as they often have better prices.

Apparently the best time to book price-wise is about five months ahead. If you go onto Skyscanner as soon as the flights are released, choose your dates, then set up an alert, it will email you as prices go up or down. We bagged return flights to LA for early August for just under £500. Incidentally, this was with WOWAir, an Icelandic airline, but it's firmly "budget", so no good for you!
