What do you do with your kids in the evening on holiday?

On our holidays so far we have always taken our double buggy for DS1 & DS3 & once they get tired or we decide it's time for 'bed' they go to sleep in the buggy while we continue drinking at the hotel bar.

We then just transfer them into their beds when we go back to the room.

But DS1 is turning 4 this year and so will be too old for the buggy.

What do you do? Do you go back to the room when it's their bedtime? Pay the expensive babysitting? ?????

Stay in a mobile home & sit outside with BBQ & wine

We specifically got acommodation last year with comfy seats in the lounge area, we tried the enteertainment on site but it was rubbish, tacky and slightly rude.
Dh took his lap top and a selection of DVD's, so cuddle in with the kids to watch films, then once off to bed another film for us, while downing cheap sangria from the supermarket, works out cheaper too .

This is why we always avoid hotel holidays now. Horris with younger children IMO. Don't want to be stuck in a hotel room being quiet.

We go for self catering - cottages, villas, mobile home, whatever - just not hotels or B&Bs. That way we put DD to bed - generally later than normal anyway, but then sit outside or in the lunge, having some nibbles and wine. Have done this in the UK, France, Florida, etc. and all been great.

We have dd (3.8) and dsd (11). We tend to go for self-catering holidays these days as it's easier. Like Milliways, when camping we sit outside/inside the tent with dsd and play Uno and sup wine. If we're in a cottage, it's bed as usual most nights then dsd, dh and I play board games.

Self-catering here too and usual bedtimes so dh and I can enjoy a bottle of wine in peace!
