Is St Ives too far? - there's a fab hotel in Carbis Bay called Boskerris Hotel. Gorgeous.

Not Penzance (does it have to be Penzance?) but if I had to choose a Cornish hotel it would be

Hotel Tresanton or Driftwood or The Lugger we had lunch at The Lugger last year adn the location is fab, right on the side of a cliff. It's also not terribly child friendly so you might love it as a couple alone!

The Old Quay House in Fowey my sister stayed recently and I think it was ok, great location on the waterfront and Fowey is very pretty.

there's a fab restaurant in Penzance - think it's called the Abbey (will go and check) - can't think of any hotels though.
