Oh DH went to an AMAZING one a few months ago. I can't remember the name and he is in meetings all day but I do know it was v v expensive (but utterly delicious). I'll ask him and get back to you

puffling · 29/01/2007 12:25

I haven't been but I know that tripadvisor ranks it's hotels based on customer reviews.
Here's the page with the top 10.

We are off for 4 days dog sledding in the arctic followed by 3 nights in helsinki

ON OUR OWN

(though am sad not to take dd to lapland I think she would quickly tire of dog sledding being only 4)

Possibly, CD. I will ask DH when he's free.

sunnywong · 29/01/2007 12:30

WOW

I do hope you are going to fire yourselves up with lots of schnapps and vodka and make mad passionate love under a swathe of furs and then beat each other with birch twigs, so we can live vicariously of course

Sorry, I didn't read your message title properly.
Egullet is a serious foodie website with chefs etc. on their forum. I've no doubt Helsinki will feature there somewhere.

Here is a link. It mentions Chez Dominique and Sundmans as 2 peoples' fav. restaurants in Europe.

Hope you like fish! I had a bad experience at Sundman's - dd threw her plate on the floor and smashed it because her food was "horrible". We were with colleagues of dh as well who'd taken us there.... I've never been so close to physical violence before! Food was excellent though.

swedishmum · 04/02/2007 07:25

I also liked the Swedish Theatre restaurant but that could be simply because dd was better behaved. It was a few years ago.

Ooh, small (cyber) world! Those egullet messages about Helsinki are DH reporting on our last holiday before DS arrived. So, if you're footloose, then Chez Dominique is reportedly pricey but the best in Finland; Sundman's is very good too, we thought. Likewise, Nokka is swish and trendy, while Bellevue is very distinctively Russian (Bear on the menu!) and a taste of something different. We were in Helsinki in high Summer, so it would be colder now, but we really enjoyed he city. Have a good trip!

For a drink from the highest point in helsinki there's the Atelier bar on the top floor of Hotel Torni.

Nice cocktails and seem to remember there was a great view from the loo as well!

Think it's maybe a bit touristy but worth a look.
