Ooooh I'm so jealous! I lived in Berlin for almost 2 years and loved it. Amazing city. Can't speak for the specific weather now but it will almost certainly be very cold! Thermals and a hat, I reckon.

(If it's snowy, and you fancy a little trip, go to the TeufelsBerg - TheodorHeuss Platz is the nearest U-Bahn station. It's a massive hill (made out rubble from the war, grassed over now with woods at the bottom) with gorgeous views of the whole city and a huge toboggan run with a hot chocolate stand at the bottom!

Am very

Have fun!

I find it that it is wet at east at some stage during the day on most days at the moment.

It was freezing cold last week -8 or so but today it's +5, bit damp and I think for next week we're expecting temperatures around that mark. So I'd go for something warm and waterproof if you have it.

SSShakeTheChi · 28/01/2007 13:11

oops should read "at least" not at east!

satine · 28/01/2007 13:20

So, where are you going and what are you doing, Cremolafoam? Do you have any plans? And any reason for choosing Berlin?

And whereabouts are you, SSShakethechi?

(You probably didn't expect the Sapnish Inquisition )

hi satine & ssshake
going to berlin as it is dhs b-day. he likes to get away and it is always v cheap
( £15 RETURN EACH!) this time of year and we kinda like cold snowy wet but empty of tourist places. (been to tallinn, oslo, moscow, bratislava, zagreb ).also direct flight now. got an apt near oranienburger tor u bahn- renting it for the week.
have had so many recommendations i am a bit bewildered. he likes spies/ cold war/in trigue. i like jazz cosy bars and decent food.

dh is a vegetarian. where could i take him for a lovely birthday meal on Wednesday night?. he eats fish so it doen't need to be bio/veg etc entirely.
thanks

OMG! I lived in a big squat just around the corner from Oranienburger Tor U Bahn - the bar we started in the bottom of the tenenment building is apparently now very hip and happening (it's called Tacheles, but gawd knows what it's like now, I lived there 90 - 92). We also had an "art space" on the top floor, (mainly pretentious crapola, if I remember rightly, but of course you weren't allowed to say so).
I'm afraid I'm no good for up to date reccomendations, but I hope you have a fabulous time.

cremolafoam · 28/01/2007 22:28

i've heard of that place- is it an artists collective now?
anyway- no doubt we will see it if it close by.
thanks for your recommensations satine and for the temperature check ssshake.
talk when i get back.
