As dp is a teacher we have to do honeymoon in super-expensive August... Getting married 07/07/07!

So where can we go? Cheapish but a bit romantic/special. Was thinking of a nice villa, don't mind self-catering or will do posh hotel (not really in-between iykwim). Want a nice beach, don't really need a huge amount to do... no lager lout hotspots...um baby will be 16mths...

Help!

Ypu are joking right Liesel???

It's a bit hot then for a lot of Europe and Med.How about Brittany or Galicia?

taylormama · 27/01/2007 10:18

barcelona - not sure how hot it is but tonnes to do and a beach and fab restaurants and Spain is kiddie friendly ...

mummymagic · 27/01/2007 20:17

I love Barcelona but we went when I was pregnant. Think I'll give Disneyland a miss for the honeymoon .

Brittany sounds nice, ashamed to admit I have never heard of Galicia... will google...

Thanks - keep 'em coming!!

Having probs posting messages at the moment so apologies if this appears twice. My husband and I and our 2 year old went to Madeira for christmas. It was one of the best holidays we have had. The Madeirans are very friendly people and they adore children and very family orientated. The weather was fantastic in the mid 20's in December, we wore t-shirts. The flight I think was about 3.5 hours to Funchal(the capital)from Manchester. I can't praise the country enough. Very beutiful, very surprising in that there is so much to discover. Alot of the houses were built and set into the mountains ...stunning just like Rio without the shabbiness. The spoken language is Portugese but most speak very good english. It is very safe there. Currency is the euro. I can't praise it enough. I can't wait to go back.

Hmmm... Madeira looks lovely... will it be too hot though?

Also, forgot to mention, we don't drive . Would Madeira still work (I see on the Galicia website thing that you need a car...)? So suggestions...? Thanks v much btw

Ooh, good to hear that, we are off to Cornwall in two weeks - we have rented a cottage somewhere in Cornwall near Devon (friends have organised it all and driving us all down - hence why I am clueless !)

Am just waiting for hubby-to-be to come back to book holiday in Funchal, Madeira. Looks gorgeous. Mumsnet is fab! THANK YOU

I'm excited for you I am so glad you booked to go there as I am almost certain you won't be disappointed. If you are then there is something wrong with you. The hotel you booked looks fabulous. We didn't hire a car by the way and we managed to get around fine. We were close enough to the city centre to either walk or take the hotel courtesy bus. You may find that your hotel has a bus most of them do over there. I shall continue spreading the word about Madeira what is great is the location with good weather all year round and is not too far to travel with a toddler. Everybody happy . I wish you a wonderful wedding and honeymoon.
