onceinawhilethere · 27/07/2016 12:37

Hubby has booked a holiday, I've been looking at the reviews that some of aren't very good, I'm secretly dreading it :/ What would / do you do if you turn up and it's awful?? Is there anything you can do??

The hotel's website says that there's a kids' pool and playground, so other families must stay there. If there's no way of changing accommodation, how about emailing the hotel directly with your concerns and asking for a 'quiet' room?

Yeah on trip advisor there's a picture of a 10ish year old so think it'll be fine if you can't change it!

BarbaraofSeville · 29/07/2016 17:32

although if I were you, I would take as much spending money as I can and spend my days on the beach and hiring a car, just using the hotel as a place to sleep

YY to this being a plan. Make the best of it - don't lose your holiday Smile

OnyK · 29/07/2016 17:44

If you can afford to pay for different accommodation, I found one with availability here:
www.zantecalinica.gr with better TA reviews!

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 29/07/2016 18:21

God, OP, I really feel for you! That hotel looks like my basic nightmare; I honestly think I'd have to stay at home and write off the money. We have been to Zakynthos and drove through Laganas once or twice but never stopped there.

There are so many lovely parts of the island - if you do go, hire a car and get away from Laganas as much as you can.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 29/07/2016 18:24

Btw, the Thomas Cook website says that the age limit for the hotel is between 18 and 35: can you not get a refund based on that?

onceinawhilethere · 30/07/2016 06:38

At this moment in time, after spending the last 2 days looking for alternatives and very little slppe, im actulattly contemplating going just to see if it is as bad as it seems may just hire a car and see... i must be mad
i will keep you posted wish me luck Flowers

Good luck! Definitely hire a car. Then you can:
Go to the waterpark.
Drive to the other side of the island and take a boat trip to see the blue caves.
Get a boat to Kefalonia (and stay there!)
Visit Gerakas beach. This is beautiful - it is one of the main turtle hatching beaches on the island. Lovely for swimming as no power boats/jet skis allowed in the bay.
Go to Navagio Bay and see the famous shipwreck: one of the most photographed images of the Greek islands!

Ask travel agent if you can upgrade to a different accommodation. I've looked at Tripadvisor and it does look awful, I agree with you OP.

Corialanusburt · 30/07/2016 10:37

Surely they can swap your hotel even if they won't refund. That's very bad customer service.

MiddleClassProblem · 30/07/2016 13:47

Good luck. If you have a car at least you can go to other parts of the island in the day but I do worry about noisy guests at night.

forkhandles4candles · 30/07/2016 14:00

Make the best of it. Maybe you can get buses to nicer parts of the island. It will be fine if you go with the flow. Sun sea...and occasional pools of vomit

onceinawhilethere · 01/08/2016 07:26

We changed our accomodation ( not through 2bookaholiday Sad a word of advise never use them they were / are shocking at customer service the amount of thies they young lady hung up on usShock ).. Anyway its a small, basic self catering and im thrilled now all packed and a positive although expensive we lost £1200 but hey Grin guess whos in charge of bookings from now on and guess whos going to dine in some wonderful little greek places at hubbys expence Flowers to all of you for you kind words and advice]

You know what, with things being as bad as there are in Greece, you could probably rent an apartment directly from a local owner for next to nothing once you're out there, if the hotel is really that bad.

Grausse · 01/08/2016 08:54

I think business is booming in Zante this year. We were there before school holidays and it was busy, our hotel was fully booked for the entire summer (and much of 2017 as well). People are avoiding Turkey, Egypt, France and the Greek Islands are benefiting.
Whereabouts is it OP?
Have a great holiday!

TitaniasTits · 01/08/2016 09:11

I have family all over the Greek islands who would beg to differ Grausse. The travel companies may be doing well - not so the people who live and work there.

Chewbecca · 01/08/2016 09:32

So pleased you now have other accommodation booked OP, have a lovely time.

Phew! You booked into one of Greeces few.kiddy drunk resorts and if you aren't a kiddy drunk it would have been hell. As in no sleep vomit everywhere hell.

Very glad you've moved - enjoy!

For future ref the others are malia on Crete, faliraki on Rhodes and a couple on kos. Same as magaluf - avoid unless your plans are swill and spew.

onceinawhilethere · 03/08/2016 12:07
