Hope no-one minds if I start another thread as the old one is full?

Or are you all in Orlando now? Smile

It cost us $50 each last year, and looking on their website it still costs $50. Child prices are ages 3 - 11, so you will pay full price for your teens as well.

We went in May and now waiting for free Disney Dining for October 2018. Probably to stay at the Caribbean Beach resort again.

mummytime · 08/02/2017 07:17

Thats sad about Disney Quest - it was one of the most memorable things we did last time. At the top they had a thing where you could design your own roller coaster and then try it out on a simulator. DS designed the most vomit inducing one, and went on it. But that was the best bit n the whole place (and easy to miss if you didn't start from the top and work your way down).

ChairRider4 · 08/02/2017 07:18

I'm waiting on Disney for free dining to weigh up on or off site

PoptartPoptart · 08/02/2017 13:46

thisagain- we are staying at the Caribbean Beach resort this summer. Have you been to the onsite restaurant? I think it's called Shutters?
The menu (online) doesn't look great, but I'm thinking of eating there anyway for ease some nights.

Hulababy · 08/02/2017 18:33

mummy time - you could do that at Epcot iirr too.

We have a free DDP when we go in 10 days! Been to the parks lots of ties and stayed at a Disney resort before - but never had a dining plan before. Looks like a lot of food on paper!

thisagain · 11/02/2017 13:11

poptart no we didn't. I had read good reviews about it but somebody on a Disney forum didn't like it. The food court itself is a bit hectic and big on burgers and chips so I'm sure it would make a change. We had a Disney dining plan with 2 counter service meals a day so didn't eat there.

MissBeehiving · 11/02/2017 13:29

Have a fab time Hula - you won't be hungry on the DDP!

Hulababy · 11/02/2017 14:14

A week today Grin Just ordered our Universal tickets and also Express Unlimited passes for the 20th - President's Day so could well be busy so decided to get the pass for that day, and we will do the Harry Potter rides the second visit on the Friday.

I think I need to train my stomach this week in preparation of how much food we will be eating!

PoptartPoptart · 11/02/2017 15:25

Have a fabulous time hulababy and be sure to update us all when you get back!

Iamastonished · 11/02/2017 17:41

Do you go every year Hulababy? Don't you get bored?

Hulababy · 11/02/2017 17:46

Not every year, no. And it is a very easy holiday to have when you have an only child - easy entertainment!

This will be our 8th visit in 12.5 years - first year was 2004 when DD was 2. She is 14 now. Last couple of times we've only been for a week, February half term, and just do 6 parks, 6 days. We all like coasters and rides.

We do have other holidays as well though - this is our winter week holiday this year. We are also going away at Easter, summer and October - so some variety thrown in. Though DD is hoping to manage a Universal day if we get to Singapore in October, and she managed to wrangle Disney and Universal in California last summer. She is a theme park fan, lol!

MissBeehiving · 11/02/2017 18:33

This our 3rd time in 3 years ☺️ And there is so much to do and see just in Orlando but last year we went to Anna Maria for a few days after Universal and saw manatees, hunted for fossilised sharks teeth and shells and fished. It was lovely.

You really do need to train up for the DDP - it's a lot of food !!! We're doing more signatures this time to get it down to a reasonable level because the snack credits are a meal in themselves. Although disappointingly my favourite snack credit (lobster Mac n cheese) is no more! 😔

Iamastonished · 11/02/2017 18:33

DD (16) and I did Orlando last year, but that is enough for me (I did Disneyland in Anaheim 30 years ago). I am not particularly a theme park fan, preferring to do a combination of sightseeing and relaxing.

I have told DD that if she wants more holidays like this she will have to wait until she is old enough to go with her friends or a partner because I don't want to do this kind of holiday again.

MissBeehiving · 11/02/2017 18:40

I thought that I would go once and that would be it because it really wasn't my type of thing but DH suspend our cynicism for the time we are there and really get into it and we love it. The boys (12 and 7) love it and this year were taking DNiece (8) who is already apoplectic with excitement and planning Halloween outfits.

Iamastonished · 11/02/2017 18:48

It's interesting that some people go back to Orlando time after time. There are too many other places I want to visit and not enough time or money to do them all. Two visits to Disney was enough for me.

MissBeehiving · 11/02/2017 19:02

Well, just because you go there a number of times, it doesn't mean to say that it's the only place that you travel to?

Iamastonished · 11/02/2017 19:08

No, but we don't have the finances and the time to go elsewhere as well.

PoptartPoptart · 12/02/2017 10:17

I went to Florida several times as a kid with my parents but it's been over 25 years since I've been.
We are going in August, me, DH, DS and DSS.
We are refering to it as our 'once in a lifetime' holiday (cos of the cost!) but in reality I know that we'll have such an amazing time and we'll be planning our return trip as soon as we get back!
There's just so much to see and do and once is not enough!

MerricatsHouse · 13/02/2017 10:04

This one will be my 7th visit, my DH has been a few more times than that. We did a few years of going every two years before having a kid, then we had to wait 4 years until DS was old enough so this one feels like a long time coming! If we could we'd go every year - in fact that is what I'm aiming for now we've completely finished doing house renovations. Whether it will be affordable remains to be seen! We will do other trips too, but are saving future major travel plans for when DS is older. Can't explain why I love it so much as I'm usually pretty cynical about forced joy, there's just something about the atmosphere and people that make me feel happy and relaxed.

Have a great time Hula! Come back with lots of tips on how to manage the DDP!

BaconAndAvocado · 15/02/2017 20:19

Teehee Poptart that's exactly what we said when we went to Orlando for the first time in 2015...... We're going back this summer!

Hulababy · 15/02/2017 21:04

Ha ha, we said that too - or rather DH did. That was back in 2004 ...3 days and counting!

mouldycheesefan · 16/02/2017 13:26

We need a break of a couple of years before we go back, it's fun but not relaxing.

PoptartPoptart · 16/02/2017 19:16

We've been to DLP a couple of times in the last few years and I've tried to explain to DH, DS & DSS that it just doesn't compare to Orlando. I don't think they get it though, so I can't wait to see their faces when they see the sheer size and scale of the Magic Kingdom!

ribbityrabbityroorooroo · 16/02/2017 22:09

Hello, we have our holiday planned for July. We have 2 children DD16 and DS13 at time of travel and was hoping you could help with our currency financial planning. DH and I are sorted but we're not sure what to organise for the children.

Both of children are saving furiously and already have Christmas gifts of dollars. We would like to give them independence over their own spending money so are keen to avoid us paying for things and them giving us the money back. They both have debit card bank accounts with HSBC but of course are aware of overseas charges. Any prepaid cards need the holder to be at least 18. For obvious reasons we are not keen for them to bring everything in cash.

I would be really grateful if you have any suggestions or recommendations for how we can can get round this.
