We were considering a city break in Barcelona next summer. Children had never been away from the UK until a very recent trip to Holland which we all loved. However we stayed in Amsterdam as part of the trip and it was our least favourite bit, far too busy. We much preferred the Hague and Delft where we could see all the sites without getting jostled out of people's way the minute we took a pic! Is Amsterdam just unique or will barca be the same?

Debating whether we would be better off just doing Holland again!

Barcelona is popular but I have never felt jostled out of the way at anytime. There are lots of places in the world that would be quieter if you wanted that unless you want to go back to the same place. What do you like doing / seeing?

Been to Barcelona lots of times and it is a good city for children - has Zoo, Aquarium, beach, parks, museums, football stadium, can walk to most places, they are welcome in most restaurants etc. It is a busy place though - even in February when we went for a short break.

You could add on a few days at a beach resort nearby so you have the best of both worlds.

Thanks for the replies! We loved the Hague, we liked seeing the palaces, the parliament and museums - anything of interest really. We just like seeing something different. I am wondering though if it was having the children in Amsterdam that was the problem and therefore maybe I would be mad to consider another city break? Very hard to know what to do!

We went to the science museum in Amsterdam and had to leave after a couple of hours as we really couldn't cope with all the pushing and shoving every time we tried to look at something. Maybe nmg is right that we should look for somewhere quieter.

As a PP poster has said there are lots of places in Barcelona which are suitable for children, you could even stay in a smaller report and just do a visit to Barcelona for a day or so if you wanted. What about somewhere like Iceland that is quiet with lots to see and do.
