Travelling to Korcula island via Dubrovnik - Help!

We are going to the Croatian island of Korcula at the end of July with 3 adults and 3 kids. It's a bit of a logistical nightmare. Staying at this great novasol place but cant see the best way to get there?

The ferry is about 3 hours drive away from Dubrovnik - is it worth renting a car there or is it better to get one once we get to the island? Slightly concerned that the car won't fit all of us in there with suitcases...

Any advice?

go on to tripadvisor and click on the Croatia forum. whenever we have had to do and plan unusual journeys we have always found this the easiest starting point. you can search on key words or post your own question. they have experts on there too.

I may have misunderstood, but is there any reason why you're not taking the ferry direct from Dubrovnik to Korcula? The jadrolinjas are great, quite regular and reliable. It seems to make more sense to get to the island on foot and hire a car once there. Probably cheaper too though I'm only guessing there.

We have been to Korcula a couple of times from both directions - Dubrovnik and Split ....from Dubrovnik we opted for a transfer from the airport to Korcula which worked well (there were 8 of us so we had a minibus) the road is a bit HAIRY but with the transfers you know that the driver will know the road well...they transfer your cases onto a little ferry that takes you over to Korcula and then there was another minibus who took us around to our accommodation (we were staying in Lumbarda ) It is quite a long journey but we found that car hire in Croatia is quite expensive and we didnt really need a car once on Korcula - we used the speed boat taxi and also hired white boats etc ...When we transferred from Split we were touring around so we caught the Catamaran from Split to Korcula and this worked well...when we left we caught the Catamaran from Krocula to Dubrovnik (we could not book this in advance though so just had to go to the office in the morning of the day of travel).

You will LOVE Korcula one of my favourite places ....
