P&O Caribbean Cruise booked for next winter.... any advice and tips?

Hi everyone

We have just booked our first cruise for November '17 on the Britannia with P&O and as newbies are looking for any advise! Visiting Barbados, Bonaire, Aruba, Grenada, St Vincent, St Lucia, St Maarten, St Kitts, Antigua and Dominica.

Would love some tips on where to visit on these islands, food on the ship etc. Our DS will be 4 when we travel so small child friendly activities needed!

Done 2 Caribbean trips po. Just get a taxi in each stop-off they will take u round the attractions we paid ten dollars per person. That was 2 years ago. They do kids tea ,or take into dining room. When u disembark at islands u will b overwhelmed by people touting for business. But the islands r fab .

p&o kids club is very good, we used it on the odd evening so we could enjoy a relaxed meal together when our son was 3. Otherwise we ate all together at the buffets in the evening as we found the kids tea a bit repetitive (and he's fussy). You will have a great time!

Also most ships have kids pools and lots of activities. The only thing we struggled with was the balcony as he kept on chucking stuff off it

I never even thought about getting swamped when getting off the ship but thinking about it no surprise really! Good to hear the kids club is good too... we've never used one so feel a bit anxious about leaving him with anyone but the thought of a relaxed meal with just hubby does sound very appealing!!

We did similar itenary on azura about 4yrs ago (pre ds). We picked up a local tour bus on st Kitts, ended up in cool beach with small shack bar for a few hrs before being picked up.

On st Vincent we also did a local tour, took us to pirates of Caribbean set and botanical gardens where despite saying no, a guide insisted on taking us round (word of warning the guides make out they are paid by govt, but they aren't they will demand some money at end, our taxi driver told him to get lost).

We did rhum runner through ship on Grenada after a walk through beautiful port, was fun and very drunken though prob not one with a 4yr old!

Got a taxi to local beach on st Lucia (next to sandals resort). Just went to local beach in st maarten, though friends went to the one where the plane flies really close over the beach which looked fun.

Did turtle swim on Barbados on last day that was fab, though not sure suitable for 4year old. Some lovely beaches on Barbados though.

Can't wait to take ds on a cruise once he's potty trained so can go in pools, which should be soon. Really enjoyed ourselves. Have a fab time.

We really want to go to that beach in St Maarten and our DS is obsessed with planes so can only imagine the look on his face (and ours to be fair!).

Been on several P & O ships since DS about same age - we were a little reticent to put him in the kids club at first, however, he had a great time and didn't ever want to leave! He made lots of friends of a similar age as they are divided into rooms within the club. The staff were so good, giving them cooking lessons, film evenings, swimming and lots of fun games. DS is 14 now and we are off on a cruise next week, he is really looking forward to it as always so much to do. Enjoy your holiday! X

When you get to Grenada get a water taxi to Grand Anse Beach, turn left when you get off, walk for ten minutes then flop on a longer outside lazy days cafe and let the lovely beach waiters bring you a rum punch topped with Nutmeg 😊 If your ds is fairly confident in water there's a beach about 5 mins in a taxi from the cruise terminal where the snorkelling is amazing. You don't need to be able to swim as you can sit on the steps of the pier and see the Gish but it really is incredible. Also try to make time for lunch as the food there is always fab and cheap. In St Lucia you can hire a taxi from the terminal to take you around the island, last time I think we paid around $40 and went to the Pitons, a Banana plantation and marigit bay.

I bloody love the Caribbean and miss my days working for P&O 😊
