Toddler Long overnight train

It's 9 hours overnight train from us to our destination and 7.5 hours back starting at nap time during the day. Dd is nearly 2 - this is doable right? We would have 3.5 days at our destination.

Doable as in - with a child it won't be a nightmare journey

What is the journey? We have taken our dds on many an overnight train, dd1 from 17 months, dd2 from 6 months. They slept really well as the train rocks them off to sleep. The main problem we have had is the return train not leaving until 23:00 and the children wanting to sleep before this, but it not being possible (except when they were still in the pushchair, both slept earlier then).

I think it will be fine - for the journey on the way there, if you're getting the train at 23:30 you might want to stick the dc in the pushchair to sleep until it's time to get on the train. Unless they cope well with late nights. But 8:30 is a good time to arrive - you might even get a lie-in with that late night!

Ime deutsche bahn trains are pretty comfy, much better than the ex trenitalia ones we get from paris to milan. We always took a thermarest for the youngest child to sleep on, on the floor of the train carriage.

And then 7.5 hours home will also be fine - take lots of snacks, some toys and something to watch/play on (ipad), the dc won't care whether they're on a train or at home.

Sounds like a brilliant trip!
