never been but my parents have been twice. They stayed in a 4 start hotel which was very cheap and apparently it was really cheap when they were over there as well.
i think its just one of those places that hasnt yet got too touristy therefore isnt ridiculously expensive

Piffle · 22/01/2007 17:58

mosquitoes if you're near water.
But then again you get the bastards in Greek island at 10 x the price!

Bulgaria is lovely the people are gorgeous
I'm biased my borther is married to a Bulgarian lass.
I cna ask her about specific areas if you like?
Slovenia is also excellent esp for cheap skiiing

Friend went ski-ing there a few years ago. Everything dead cheap and the Bulgarians are lovely they said.

It's because of the low cost of living compared to a lot of Europe - very low wages.

Sorry for the hi-jack, but whats the weather like July/Aug. We were thinking of France this year but somewhere a bit less touristy might be nice?

suzycreamcheese · 22/01/2007 18:18

went years ago black coast resorts just travelling on our own so stayed lots of places
give it a whirl..

friendly, beautiful landscape, near black sea, & capital - sofia toilets an eye opener !

like people say its low cost of their living compared with ours..

suzycreamcheese · 22/01/2007 18:20

multitasker..summer can be 80's 90's easily very hot very nice by coast..

weepootleflump · 22/01/2007 18:23

multitasker, I went a couple of years ago in July and the weather was gorgeous - hot but not overbearing. Best thing about it is the Black Sea - it's soooo warm.

PoppiesMum · 22/01/2007 18:31

My sis is a travel agent, and says it's got good beaches and lovely weather, and isn't too touristy yet. She says that as it's an up and coming area, there can be a lot of building work going on - something to look out for before booking.

multitasker · 22/01/2007 18:32

Thanks, very interested now. Love the idea of a quiet family holiday - have 3 U8. Can't bear the thought of over-priced over-rated popular spots.

Kbear · 22/01/2007 21:21

DH just said "BULGARIA"? Like I am quite mad to even suggest it. So I showed him the brochure then showed him the prices and he went quiet!

He's driving me mad actually, I suggest places he says "nah, don't fancy that", or "no, too far", "no, too expensive", "no, can't get time off then".

So when it gets to September and we haven't had a holiday and he's worked his arse off all year without two weeks away he can decide what to do then.

Can you tell he's pissing me off?

Humph.

Arse.

Mum's been as she bought an appartment out there and she loved it! I'm hoping to go sometime this year, apparently everything is really reasonable. She has a place at Sunny Beach.

I went at the end of August. It was lovely. Couldn't fault it. I would say from what I saw though that it pays to spend alittle more on a hotel.

We satyed in Sunny Beach at the Majestic at it was fantastic, the service, the people, the cleanliness. Food left a little to be desired but was fine.

Also the Thomson Kids LCub at the majestic was fabulous. really looked after dd, she loved it - made something everyday new the staff by name and they'd say hi at the pool. brilliant.

Would love to go back. Also no insects, mossies, ants, wasps nothing. Lots of jelly fish if you swam out mind but apparently that was the time of year.
