December honeymoon recommendations please

Hi

I'm getting married in November so we've decided to go away over Christmas for our honeymoon. We had considered Mexico or the Caribbean but I think we want to avoid those places due to the advice around the Zika virus.

Can anyone recommend the best places for hot weather but also a lovely honeymoon destination? We've considered the Maldives but it is so expensive even for a week. We don't mind paying up to 4-5k for both of us but we'd like to go for 10-14 days.

Any advice or ideas would be gladly received!

Aren't sandals doing buy one week get one free.... That would be my ultimate!!!

Ooh I'll have a look thanks! I think lots of them are in the Caribbean and we're trying to avoid that area if possible but definitely worth checking out!

I would start by getting the most up to date advice on Zika so that you avoid these places. I think this is why sandals are doing the bogof offer because so many couples wont touch it because of the risk.

we really enjoyed Belize because it is so different and the weather over Christmas was perfect.

Anywhere tropical will be a zika risk by then, and already has dengue. Unless you are planning a quick baby, go and use plenty of d e e t .

all fascinating places to visit and great honeymoon destinations - imo
As special says - anywhere tropical you will need deet due to dengue and you may need anti-malarial tablets too.

Mauritius. Not currently a zika region. No idea what weather is like in December though.

We did Kenya for our honeymoon, a 7 day safari and 8 day beach, beautiful weather awesome views and we married on 27th November

*the 8 day beach was Mombassa

Thailand. It's lovely and 5000 will get you 2 weeks AI in a beautiful plane over Christmas.

Another vote for Mauritius here. Perfect honeymoon destination.

We got married just before Christmas and decided to embrace it - we went to New York. It was fab, there was snow, we went to see a show, ice skated, marvelled at the Rockefeller etc, did Bloomingdales all the 'rom com' movie moments you could have wished for!

Here is one example. Reethi Beach is a great resort. If you ring them, rather than book online they will knock some off the published price, which is all inclusive. They have other cheaper islands too.

I would reconsider the Maldives as it is the most amazing place ever. All the different SE Asian places or the Carribean can be a bit much of a muchness but they are more affordable. I've never been to Mauritius but it does look amazing too.

We honeymooned in Hawaii in January and it was the most amazing place! Perfect combination of civilisation and wilderness and history and culture imo.

I have been to the Maldives twice and it is stunningly beautiful, but there really is FA there unless you are into scuba diving. I also got bored shitless eating in the same hotel every night (even though the food was pretty good). Bear in mind that if your sea plane can't take off (which happens quite often apparently) you are stuck in the world's shittiest airport at Male.
