Portugal package family holiday - where to go that's a bit quieter

After wanting to avoid package holidays and beach holidays we are now considering. Where can you suggest in Portugal that is a bit quieter but that will allow us to go places easily (without necessarily needing to hire a car but could do that for a day or so) , but will still have kids club etc? I don't really like really touristy places but accept if we do a package holiday we are tourists! We don't really have time now to do the proper research so want to try to book in next few days. Im an experienced independent traveller so if anything this is actually a scary prospect but we figure we should try it once while the children are small (6 and 3). Recommendations?

Martinhal is very nice as that sort of place goes. Never been 'on-season' so I don't know how busy it gets. It's expensive though. There were a few things to see nearby but not many - with this sort of holiday the pleasure is really in staying put and not doing much at all.

Try Vale d'Olivieras as a cheaper Martinhal alternative.
