Anyone been to Croatia?

We haven't had a holiday for 4 years and hear that Croatia is nice - Ideally I want a bucket and spade type holiday with clean simple accomodation, bit of sightseeing , child-friendly beaches and pine trees. We have three aged 5,3 and 2.

I've just googled Croatia and feel a bit overwhelmed - where should I begin?

My DD had a week or so there in Sept/Oct (can't remember exactly) and loved it - beautiful country and nice beaches. I'll get her to post something later if I remember. She visited Dubrovnik and an island called Hvar but I don't know where else.

went for a long weekend with friends when staying in Italy. We visited the island of Rab. Had a fantastic time ate lots of sea food & drank lots. All prior to having my dd, sorry.

Not many sandy beaches in Croatia am afraid mostly stones/pebbles - not sand castle building stuff ! Some of the islands have small sandy beaches but not long stretches of sand with pine trees behind . Try Sardinia that has all of the above - especially the south of the island but not alot of sightseeing- its pretty quiet.Unless you go in the middle of August and then its packed - as are most Italian beaches.
I know some areas of Croatia quite well and I love the country, the people , great food and wine, lovely bays , clean sea but to get to the quieter islands Hvar /Brac / Korcula the transfer time is long . With ferries & driving involved.
