Day out halfway between Birmingham and Aberystwyth

Wise MNers! I am looking for a venue for a day out as equidistant as possible between Brum and Aber to meet up with some old friends. As for criteria, it must have plenty of space for four under-fives to run around and somewhere for coffee / cake / lunch, ideally with a wet-weather option if it rains (although we're planning for May half term and have our fingers crossed).

We are NT members and have had a successful similar day previously at Croft Castle in Herefordshire.

Recommendations gratefully received!

Powis or chirk castles. Powis has a terraced garden but there's a big flat lawn where running about is welcomed!. Both should have half term activities running and both have cafes . and both have indoor bits.
