Baby in taxi - do I need a carseat?

I need to get to the airport with a 5 month old and we don't have a car so don't have a carseat! Do you need a car seat to travel in a taxi/minicab with a baby? Or can you request taxi with a carseat?

get a black cab...they can take the baby in the pram / buggy

Phone around and you may find a firm with a car seat provided.

How far from the airport are you ? Can you order a cab based there to collect you (as they may keep seats there), or ask the firm if they'll store yours and meet you on return.

Thanks for posting. Didn't realise that you could take a baby in pram in black cab.

how did u get your baby out of hospital without a car seat...

slso if you are in a crash and the baby is not in a car seat would you forgive yourself if your baby was killed?

bandstand · 16/01/2007 21:56

aren't taxi drivers exempt?
have the baby on your lap..

littleducks · 16/01/2007 22:04

Legally, taxi/minicab are exempt.

Never used black cab (none that close too us) with buggy but it is supposed to be easy.

It is very easy with blackcab and pram/pushchair. Just hold on to the the pram as they still corner as fast!!

janek · 04/03/2007 22:17

are they safe in the pushchair though?
i have heard that black cabs can strap pushchairs in like they would a wheelchair, have never tried it though, apparently you have to be quite insistent that you want this to happen.
just because it's legal for a baby to not be strapped in in a taxi it doesn't make it safe.
