Sorry, I'm a bit lazy at the moment and google is not helping - can someone recommend a good area to stay in Dublin? City center seems very expensive. Any other nice areas with good transport?

I suspect everywhere is expensive in dublin! We got a fairly good deal at jurys inn in christchurch in february, but was still quite pricey.

You could try up or down the coast somewhere that's on the dart, that may be a bit cheaper.
