We are trying to pick a summer holiday but are finding it really hard to find somewhere that will keep the kids entertained but will not be full of awful chav familys!

There doesn't seem to be somewhere that is unspoilt and peacful but with lots to do!

We look at quiet places and they are too quiet, then we look at main resorts and they look like typical package holidays!

Am I being too fussy!!!!

We stayed in Playa da Muro, a little south of Alcudia itself with 4* hotel/apartment complexes (several Iberostar ones for example), many of which were on the beach. There was a Thomson All Inclusive nearby too. Didn't strike me as chavvy particularly but we went in October half term , so much quieter by then, and there was a nice mix of nationalities in the hotel. Great beach and we overlooked the nature reserve.

Sweetheat - I understand what you mean and I agree. My advice would be not to go to Alcudia. Personally I didn't like it. it's not full of larger louts but there is a lot of package holiday accommodation unlike Pollensa which as much more small apartment and villas.

MarsLady · 10/01/2007 17:09

No it didn't but it was so close to the "town" about 5 mins walk that we were able to go out and find our entertainment. We had a couple of places that we used to go to... Bunnys for food and drink and one of the hotel complexes for dodgy kareoke and discos etc.

Loved our Menorca holidays.

Now I want to go back... wonder what DS1(14) will think of that!

ScoobyDooooo · 10/01/2007 17:10

It had entertainment on every night the kids loved it.

It was in muro on the beach front & called playa gardens still can not find pictures will keep looking..

We stayed here . Thomas Cook go there but we booked direct - cheaper !

ScoobyDooooo · 10/01/2007 17:26

Yes that is it sweetheart.

ScoobyDooooo · 10/01/2007 17:28

One thing i will say is the kitchens are small so if you are thinking of going sc then it may be a no no because i don't think it is possible to cook a big meal in there.

sweetheart · 10/01/2007 17:30

excellent - I may have to start picking your brains now! It sounds quite far out - is it easy to get into the town centre, I think that website says 2km.

We wouldn't mind cycling is it safe with children or is it a very busy main road?

Also are there many good day trips - we quite like a visit to a water park as it keeps dd entertained for the whole day.

Ummmmmm, oh where to start - this place looks fab!

In the apartments do the kids sleep in a different room and do they have balconies. Is it possible to get a room that overlooks the entertainment or is it done inside? I have a 1 year old ds who will probably want his bed long before us and dd, although he could always snooze in his buggy.

we wanted sc or hb - only really because we wanted an apartment and not a hotel. We like to have our own bedroom - we stayed in a hotel once where we practically shared a bed and it was just awful! There was no room to move!

sc would only be for maybe making some toast in the morning or somthing - holidays are NOT for cooking and cleaning

The apartment/hotel we stayed in (see below) had a small kitchen area - couple of rings, microwave and a fridge - and you could choose hb where you got a buffet breakfast and dinner. There was a kids splash pool and small play area with an indoor kids club. The main bedroom was a good size (I had a stomach bug so spent a lot of time there!) and the kids slept in the separate lounge area, but that did have access to the balcony.

ScoobyDooooo · 10/01/2007 17:52

Ok will try my best we went to alcudia because my sister was working for first choice doing accounts.

Right it is about a 10 minute taxi journey to alcudia town centre, you could ride bikes it is a main road but the roads are not all hustle bustle with loads of cars on. Also if you are out in alcudia on a night you can catch a lift home on a horse & carriage which ds loved.

We went out everynight for dinner at all different places in alcudia & we also went to playa pollensa one which is a lovely town.

The entertainment is fab, they had a lot of kids things then music, magic & all sorts we had a room on the 1st floor so not to high up which overlooked the entertainment stage so we could watch from the balcony we had an ideal setting but alot of the apartments overlook the entertainment & if i was you i would ask to be overlooking the pool area & the entertainment.

There is also an in indoor pool with a jaquzzi & crazy golf.

It has a lovely beach bar setting which does all food, ice creams & cold hot drinks which is fab cause you can come off the beach & have a rest here.

There is also a massive restaurant which has a buffet every night always different. & an inside hall where they do kids things,

Right next to the hotel is a shop which does most things, we went there most mornings & brought things like bread etc.

on the strip the hotel is on there is some shops if you go left, & a taxi rank so you can get a cab to different places easy. if you go right out of hotel there is also shops & about 4 different restaurants, we went for breakfast in one a couple of times that was lovely we sat outside. There is also a lovely very friendly restaurant opposite which is open for lunch, dinner, does a lovely steak

It also has things like big trampolines the kids can go on & little go karts.

There is also a bus stop so i suppose you could use the bus is well.

We never went to a water park we were ment to but decided to stay on the beach i know there is one but not sure where it is.

The beach is amazing it has big straw unbrellas, the sand is all white & the sea is blue fantastic beach & very clean. They have a lady who goes up & down the beach with a wheel borrow selling fruit like pineapple & things it is fab when your feeling all hot.

Over all we had a fab time.

ScoobyDooooo · 10/01/2007 17:54

Also we found the rooms to be spacious & well equiped, we had a fridge, hob, sink, cuboards but it was just on a small scale big enough to stand & make breakfast & things oh & it hasd a kettle & toaster.

The balcony was massive, we had sliding doors from the lounge & also a door from the bedroom to the balcony, it had a table & chairs on it.

ScoobyDooooo · 10/01/2007 18:02

Ah just remembered is well that at the front of the hotel to the left there is a bike hire place on the path they have those fab bikes where it is double seated so you & dh at the front & kids on the back or whatever you want to do. the pony rides for kids is opposite this.

Hope all this helps any more questions just ask away.

sweetheart · 10/01/2007 18:22

thanks for all the info - it sounds ideal for us. We like to be near the nightlife but not right in it.

I have looked in the first choice brochure (I could start my own travel agents at the moment!) but they seem to have dropped this place as it's not in it. I am trying to find somewhere else to book it at the moment.

Thanks so much for your help - I will probably have some more questions - I'm going to show it to dh in a sec and see what he thinks.

we've been to Majorca the past two years and are going back again this year (and I'm one of those types who swore I would never go back to the same place twice ). We went to Sarcoma and stayed at the Coma Gran, it's a very family oriented holiday, entertainment for the kids, minni disco at night, kids clubs if you're into that sort of thing, but no yobbos that I saw (and I'm definitely a snob!)

Lots of families in the resort as well - and no yobbos again.

Only downside is that they seem to think that the majority of the population live on chips, but the hotel does have its own restaurant that caters quite well.

ScoobyDooooo · 10/01/2007 18:33

Think that is why i could not find it, ours was booked through first choice last year cause my sis booked it through her office in alcudia, we done it all seperatly she booked the hotel we booked the flights it worked out so much cheaper.
