Fossil beech recommendation - family with kids + campervan?

Depends where you are! The Isle of Wight has a nice long sandy beach with fossil walks (opposite side to the big resorts). Lyme Regis is good but tricky for camping unless you stay in Uplyme. Best fossil beach with camping close by is Charmouth. If you don't live too far from the south coast you could do a short weekend. If you are in Scotland you may need to find different beaches!
